Shaw House is an important Elizabethan manor house now used by West Berkshire County Council as a venue for public events. The house has a rich history, from the English Civil War and residence of the Chandos family to its time as an independent school. These events are celebrated in a permanent exhibition that opened to the public in 2009.
Situated within a Georgian panelled room, the exhibition content includes wall-hung graphics and exhibits displayed in custom-designed fitments and showcases, which are freestanding to avoid any permanent fixings into the historic fabric. A second room contains showcases for temporary exhibitions.
Graphic displays provide interpretation for the other main rooms, supported by mobile units that contain interactive games for children.
